I know being hairless is a dream for some girls and I have friends who regularly get a wax, I don’t know how they do it. They sound excruciatingly painful to me. I’ve never been the one to get a wax on the reg but I do like being hairless on my legs, armpits and elsewhere.
When I was at Blog Con back in June I saw an interesting brand, Smooth Skin, promoting their at home intense pulsed light (IPL) device. This was something that was quite new to me, I didn’t know that you could get these machines at home!
Luckily for me, I don’t get much body hair so it’s never really been of interest to me. However, when I saw this device I thought otherwise. I was so intrigued to the science behind it and how it all worked.
I was asked to be in the promotional video and thought it would be fun to do, I wasn’t expecting anything in return but I received an email a few days later with the video and an invitation to trail the SmoothSkin Muse device. How could I say no?
Still being intrigued by the device I did some research on at home IPL treatments and what they actually do. Light energy is transferred through the skin’s surface and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. The light energy is converted to heat energy which disables the hair follicle and prevents further growth. The treated hairs will then fall out naturally in about 1-2 weeks.
Lasers and IPL have some similarities but lasers use a single spectrum light in one colour and wavelength while IPL uses a much broader spectrum light in various colours and wavelengths. Both target the melanin in the hair follicle and can provide long-lasting results.
Anyways, fast forward a few months and I’ve been using SmoothSkin Muse regularly. At the beginning of my journey I was a little apprehensive to start because I’m a wuss. After reading the information pack from cover to cover I set about trialing it for the first time.
As a safety precaution you are to use the device in an unsuspecting area and wait 24 hours before using it properly to make sure a reaction doesn’t occur. I didn’t react to it so I was all set to use it. SmoothSkin Muse scans your skin before each flash and selects the appropriate light intensity that is best suited to your skin tone, maximising your results and making sure it’s safe for your skin. You are asked to shave before you start with the treatment and then use the IPL machine on the desired area.
I’ve been using it every few weeks and have noticed a massive different in my hair regrowth and that my shaves are far and few between. I am now shaving my armpits every 2 weeks and the hair takes a lot longer to regrow.
Love, Cally x
