The down low on Motherdirt.

I recently received a very exciting email where I was invited to my first ever blogging event hosted by Mother Dirt. I was kindly invited to attend a breakfast and guided tour of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

I was greeted by many smiley faces when I arrived at Tom’s Kitchen in Chelsea on Saturday morning. I was swiftly directed to the top floor where we had a private dining area, perfect for getting to know the founder of Mother Dirt and other bloggers.

Jasmina, the president of Mother Dirt, introduced herself and we started chatting about the ever changing beauty and skin care industry and my thoughts on it. I’m lucky enough that my skin is pretty good with trialling new products and I’ve never had a reaction after testing something on my face – let’s hope this doesn’t jinx me now. I met a few other important people that worked for Mother Dirt and learnt that they’d all flown over from New York and Boston as Mother Dirt is an American brand!

As the bloggers started trickling in, we all sat down and Jasmina introduced us to the brand. Prior to this event, I had never heard of Mother Dirt before so I was very intrigued about the company and the ethos behind it. I quickly learnt that Mother Dirt was a Biome Friendly company and had spent year researching and creating a healthy bacteria for the skin.

In the current day and age the modern world is obsessed about cleanliness and removing all bacteria and dirt from the skin, which creates a difficult environment for the natural organisms to survive on. However, our bodies play host to millions of microorganisms and just like the inside of our bodies, our skin also relies on good bacteria to be healthy. There has been a boom in creating products to make our gut healthy such as kombucha. However, the market for creating good bacteria for your skin is near to none… this is where Mother Dirt appears.

Mother Dirt has spent years creating a special bacteria called AOB (Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria) which would have been found on our skin hundreds of years ago. AOB helps to convert irritating components of our sweat and turns it into beneficial byproducts like Nitrite, which helps keep the bad bacteria in check, and Nirtic Oxide, a antioxidant that helps to calm and soothe the skin.

All of Mother Dirt’s products contain 10 ingredients or less and have no preservatives, fragrances, sulphates, parabens or phthalates. It’s especially important that their products are preservative free because preservative prevent bacteria and other microorganisms from growing. Due to this reason, there’s a specific use by date on the products, however, if you keep the facial spray in the fridge it can last up to 6 months! Currently Mother Dirt are selling 4 products; the AO+ mist (£49.99), a facial and body cleanser (£13.99), a moisturiser  (£29.99) and a shampoo (£13.99) and I was kindly gifted all of them to trial at home! All of their products are so versatile that you can use both the AO+ mist and the cleanser all over your body!

After learning all about Mother Dirt we took a short walk to the Victoria and Albert Museum to visit the exhibition ‘The Future Starts Here’ which is £16.00 to visit if you’re not a member. The exhibition brings together more than 100 objects which are shaping the world of tomorrow and it was really interesting to read about cryogenics and people trying to extend their life by taking pills – very Black Mirror. Mother Dirt was chosen to partake in this exhibition as they are rethinking healthy skin and the skincare industry. 

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about Mother Dirt. I’ve swapped out bits of my old skin care routine and replaced them with Mother Dirt products and I’ll report back to you on how my skin is looking in about 2-3 weeks!
