February Birchbox Review

Hello all you lovely people,

You’ll be glad to know that this isn’t another Rome travel diary post, but an actual beauty post! I am currently writing up day 3 and am also writing up my travel make up essentials so that’ll be up soon as well!

I know I missed my January Birchbox review but I was so busy with work that I kind of pushed my blog to the side, I still need to work on my blog organisation and when I post because at the minute it’s all over the place. I’d love to know how you stay on track and keep organised! Let me know in the comments.

Facetune_28-02-2018-22-03-38.JPGThis months Birchbox was named ‘Beauty Through The Decades’ to celebrate Birchbox’s favourite timeless trends and to help reminisce about some more experimental looks. As said in the little leaflet ‘Beauty is all about mixing up the new with the classic and – most importantly- having fun!’ I couldn’t agree more with this quote, however, this box did disappoint me slightly! I would have liked to see more beauty products instead of hair care as two of the 5 products I received were in fact hair care. I don’t mind receiving hair care products but because I’ve got long hair, the hair masks or treatments normally only provide me with enough product for one use, two at a push.

The product that I was most excited to try was the Laura Geller Double Take Baked Versatile Powder Foundation in shade Medium (RRP £28.00 but it’s currently £25.20 on feelunique!). I’ve never actually tried anything from Laura Geller before which is a shock because I know they are very popular due to their highlighters! This powder has a unique formula which has been baked on a terracotta tile to lock in it’s long-wear finish, meaning, you won’t need to touch up during the day. Now, I tried this once, when I had to touch up my  YSL all-hours foundation when I was in Rome. It did the job of removing the oiliness from my face. However, I wasn’t amazed by it and when I arrived back home in the UK the powder had smashed… which is very irritating, so I won’t really be able to test it out properly.

Facetune_28-02-2018-22-06-11.JPGNext up was the Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Pixi Pink (RRP £8.00). This lip balm is packed with nourishing Shea butter and vitamin E which means that your lips will be looked after. I was so excited for this lip balm but it’s so pink… and just doesn’t suit me!! I tried blending this out and not putting too much on but nothing changed, if you’ve used this and figured out how to use it and not make it so pink, let me know! I doubt I’ll use this when I’m out, I’ll probably keep it in my make up drawer and just use it when I’m at home. I do normally really enjoy Pixi products so this won’t deter me from buying other beauty products. I’ve currently got my eyes on the Chloe Morello collaboration and the Palette Chloette looks gorgeous!

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetAnother product that I was excited to try was the Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask (RRP £26.00). It is full of fatty acids and vitamins which will leave your hair soft, silky and protected. It is also sulphate, phosphate and paraben free which helps to fortify and restructure hair so it’s original state. Coconut milk is rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B5 and B6 which helps to nourish and condition your hair to naturally banish dryness. I tried this the other day in the shower and I thought that the size could of been a little bigger as I used up the majority of the hair mask in one go! However, it did smell really nice and make my hair feel really soft and silky. I haven’t seen a drastic change in my hair but I suppose you wouldn’t after one use. Facetune_28-02-2018-22-08-18.JPG

Another product I received was the Percy and Reed Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish (RRP £10.00). I do love Percy and Reed products so I was very excited to see this as it is a lightweight, non-greasy finisher for all hair types. It is designed to give intense shine and invisible hold. The moisturising oils help work to smooth the hair and combat frizz and flyaways. The horse chestnut extract gives a soft, flexible hold and the sunflower wax keeps your hair moisturised. The formula provides a protective barrier to help boost temperature and humidity resistance. It is ideal for hair that needs to be smoothed, controlled and defined which is definitely what my hair needs! I love the smell of Percy and Reed products and this lives up to my expectations!

Finally I received The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio in Love You So Latte (RRP £7.00). I wasn’t overly excited for this because I’ve got so many brown eyeshadows but it may be good for travelling if you only want very minimal make up. The shimmers are pretty and I will try them but I honestly I wasn’t very impressed with the pigmentation of any of the colours. The eyeshadows are apparently packed with caffeine which means they are full of antioxidants which help to brighten and tighten your skin, helping to keep your eyes looking bright and to help maintain the perfect base for make-up. I’m not sure how much I believe this because I use a concealer to prep my eyes and then use a translucent powder on top, so not sure if it’ll effect my eyes and how much it would effect them if I didn’t prep them.

I wasn’t overly impressed with this box, I feel like I could of received better products that I would of gotten more use out of, but I guess that’s what happens when you buy a subscription box. Are you subscribed to any boxes? Let me know if you are and which ones! I may change to a different subscription box so I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Love, Cally x

  1. I’m sorry your box was so disappointing…at least you managed to get some beautiful flat lays from them cause these pics are gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to try Pixi but gosh does this sound like a color that wouldn’t suit me either. I’m not big on pink. At least the hair product with the coconut milk did actually leave your hair soft. & I’m so sorry your Laura smashed, RIP to that cute powder, her products are pretty nice (I’ve mostly tried the highlighters). Thanks for sharing❤️
