Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well. This post is going to be about my weekend in Rome with my little sister, Amber. I’m going to do each day as a separate post as I’ve got so much to talk about!

As I arrived in the hotel room I was immediately drawn to the balcony, the views were amazing.
I flew from Gatwick at 6:35am which meant I arrived in Italy there for 10:05am due to the one hour time difference. My sister had landed before me me so she was waiting for me at the airport. We travelled to our hotel by taxi and as she’s working for the W hotel she was able to get us a really good deal at The Westin Excelsior. The hotel was absolutely stunning. The lobby was adorned with chandeliers and gorgeous tiling. If you’re looking to go to Rome I would definitely recommend it!

Look how beautiful the lobby is!
We checked in and headed up to our room to drop our suitcases off.

It was getting pretty late on in the afternoon and our tummies were rumbling for a hearty Italian lunch. We started roaming the streets around our hotel until we came across a little Italian restaurant. I was a bit apprehensive about going in as it was empty, but boy was I wrong. The staff that worked there were absolutely amazing, they were so attentive and kind. They let us into the kitchen to watch our pizza being made, they let us taste various things for free and were so passionate about their restaurant.
We quickly looked through the menu and decided on a margarita pizza topped with rocket and linguine pesto to share.

The delicious home-made pesto linguine.

We eagerly waited for our food and we weren’t disappointed when it arrived. The linguine was so delicious and you could definitely tell that it had been freshly made. The pesto that accompanied it was so creamy and gorgeous. The pizza was equally as good, the mozzarella was so delicious!

The beautiful Trevi Fountain.
After lunch we decided to go exploring and took a short stroll to the Spanish steps and the Trevi Fountain. As we were approaching the Trevi Fountain you could hear the calming flow of water which was so relaxing. I was amazed by the intricate architecture, it is even more beautiful in person.

My sister wanted to visit a gelateria that she found on Instagram but when we went to visit it, it was shut. However, we did find another gelateria which served Nutella gelato which is exactly what I wanted. The Nutella gelato was so rich and indulgent that you would definitely need to pair it with another flavour, so I chose white chocolate.

Our delicious Nutella and white chocolate gelato.
We went back to our hotel as we were tired after a super early start and we decided that we should have a little nap so we could make the most of the evening. However, I ended up feeling a little sick. I think my belly was overwhelmed with the rich food I was eating. Thankfully, when I woke up I was feeling better and we decided to walk around our hotel again. We weren’t keen to walk too far as we weren’t feeling 100%.

In front of the Fontana Dei Quattro Fiumi (the fountain of four rivers).
We found another adorable restaurant and there was the sweetest old man playing the piano and singing inside the restaurant. I went for the Buticini Amatricana, which is basically spaghetti with a hole running through the middle in a tomato sauce with pecorino cheese, guanciale and black pepper.
I’m sorry this post has been super long and all over the place! Hope you enjoyed what I got up to on my first day in Rome. I’ll be posting about my other two days so keep your eyes peeled for them.
I’ve linked the clothes I was wearing;
- Polka dot dress (they don’t have it in red anymore, just black, but it’s only £3.99!!!)
- Sunglasses £14.00
- Coat (I can’t find the exact coat on river island, but this is very similar £85.00)
- Burberry scarf (£350.00)
Love,
Cally x

How lucky that you managed to get a good deal on the hotel that your sister works at! These photos are absolutely stunning. I’ve never been to Italy but it looks gorgeous and as I don’t like the heat, this looks like a lovely time of year to go. If you’re wearing a scarf it can’t be TOO scorching hot! That hotel it beautiful. Lovely post, you’ve made me very jealous and wanderlust-y! xxx

Thank you so much Jenny! We were very lucky indeed! The weather there at the minute is gorgeous, sunny but cool! It does get really hot during the summer months so I wouldn’t go then if you don’t like the heat! Xxx

I can’t tell you how jealous I am of your trip to Rome! As an archaeology student, there are so many things that I want to see in the city, a visit is at the top of my bucket list! Your photos are absolutely stunning, especially the one of you in that red dress leaning over the balcony – you look gorgeous! The Trevi Fountain looks amazing and the food you had made my mouth water, I need some pesto pasta in my life!
